The 3 Day Diet Meal Plan

British Heart Foundation Diet

This diet is best known as the British Heart Foundation Diet or the Greenland Diet and has been circulating for many years. The diet claims claims that you can lose 10lb in three days – and many of our readers get fantastic results. The diet is very popular in the UK – but the exact origins are unknown.

Long term weight loss can only ever be achieved through sensible changes to diet and the introduction of regular exercise. But this three day diet is great for a special occasion that has crept up and you aren’t quite where you want to be.

Oolong Tea

Why not try combining The British Heart Foundation Diet with Oolong Tea?

Every now and then we all feel the need to resort to a strict, short term weight loss eating plan to see fast results. While a very strict diet meal plan is not advisable to do regularly or long term. kick start style diet plans can give you the confidence boost and motivation that you need to start a healthy weight loss plan.

The 3 Day Diet should only be followed for three days at a time. If you wish to use the diet for a few weeks, we would advise that you follow a three days on, three days off rota.

This weight loss plan works because the calorie intake is low, but still gives nutritional balance. One of the things that makes this plan popular and relatively easy to follow, is that ‘normal’ foods such as ice cream and hot dogs are incorporated and there is some variety.

5.5 lbs off in three days!!! Yay! I’m going to carry on with the breakfasts and lunches and have protein and vegetables for dinner. I found this so easy to follow (minus the hotdog malarkey). It really helped to give me a really good kick start. I’d defo recommend it. Mainly because it works and also because there was no need to spend loads on it. Anyone who says this diet is unhealthy needs to look at all the crap that I used to eat!

    Hi Rose,

We do recommend you use tinned hotdogs, however jarred Bratwurst (framkfurter) sausages are fine.

Sounds delicious Louise! Do keep us posted : )

Thank you for getting back to me. I’m feeling so positive! I had cottage cheese and toast for lunch today and it was amazing. I must have been hungry but I didn’t feel it. I stir fried (no oil) some cooked chicken breast with some crunchy fine green beans for dinner but had to put some lemon juice and chilli in it to make it taste nice.

Hi, my name is Rose. In the past, about 8 years ago, I followed this diet plan on a number of occasions and had positive results, although it was not has much as 5kg! Perhaps it was the sausages????! Can I use frankfurters?

    Hi Louise,

Yes the 7 day diet is fine to commence after this diet, maybe give yourself a few days off before hand, but still continuing to eat healthily.

This looks great! I need a kick start as I have found the pounds to be creeping on of late. The only time I can seem to lose weight is if I follow a really rigid plan so I’m starting this in the morning. I’m going away in three weeks and read in one of the comments on this thread that the seven day egg diet would be ok to do straight after this?? Any advice? I eat such crap on a day to day basis that the food in these diets look much more balanced than what I’m used to. I usually spend half my day hoovering up uneaten food my toddler has rejected! All advice gratefully received.

    Hi Melissa,

Yes, leaving the bread out is fine. As is replacing the ice cream with yoghurt, why not try freezing the yoghurt?

  • http://www.slimmingsolutions.co.uk/ Slimming Solutions

Just to clarify the confusion regarding 1 cup of ice cream. 1 cup = 8fl oz however ice-cream is not a liquid in it’s frozen state and should be measured in oz rather than fl oz.

1 cup of ice cream weighs approximately 4oz (dependent on type)

    Hope this helps.

Hi Zee, I would advise that you continue where you left off.

  • Esha

Can you swap to an vegetarian option so can you replace the lean meat or?

  • Em

How much is a cup of ice cream ? One cup = 8 oz?? 8oz of ice cream seems a lot, thanks!

  • http://www.slimmingsolutions.co.uk/ Slimming Solutions

    Yes Shaz, this is fine.

  • http://www.slimmingsolutions.co.uk/ Slimming Solutions

    Hi Shaz,

Replacing the hot dogs with lean meat is absolutely fine, we would advise this to be no more than 3oz.

  • Shaz

Can we swap Tuna for Salmon? And can the eggs be poached or soft instead of hard boiled?

  • Shaz

Can chicken or lean meat be used instead of viennas? Can’t get myself to eat these as they are full of unhealthy nutrients …

We only recommend you have the following Vera:

    Black coffee/tea/water*

  • http://www.slimmingsolutions.co.uk/ Slimming Solutions

You could try swapping with another of the foods listed in the diet however we would generally only recommend substituting foods with what is stated.

Hi Lyn, my sincere apologies you are correct. 1 cup = 8 oz

  • http://www.slimmingsolutions.co.uk/ Slimming Solutions

Hello Lyn, we would always advise that you have a break at some point during any strict diet.

  • http://www.slimmingsolutions.co.uk/ Slimming Solutions

Hi Gemma, you can certainly follow this diet for 1 week however we advise not so strictly after the 3 days, maybe keep breakfast and lunch the same and have a healthy dinner. Hope this helps.
