The 3 Day Diet Meal Plan

Heart Foundation Diet   This diet is also known as the British Heart Foundation Diet and the Greenland Diet and has been circulating for many years.The diet has circulated in the form of a one page sheet that claims you can lose 10 pounds in 3 days. The diet has been popular in the UK – but its exact origins are unknown.

 
Long term weight loss can only ever be achieved through sensible changes to diet and the introduction of regular exercise.But…..there is that party/wedding/christening/holiday coming up and the long term diet plan hasn’t quite got you where you want to be yet! And you don’t want to be captured on those photographs when you are not feeling that you look your best.

Every now and then we all feel the need to resort to a strict, short term weight loss eating plan to see immediate results. While a very strict diet meal plan is never something that is advisable to do regularly or for long periods of time, kick start style diet plans can give you the confidence boost and the motivation that you need to continue to maintain a healthy weight loss plan.

So with this in mind, below we have the details of a free diet plan, to be followed for 3 days. For obvious reasons it is commonly known as The 3 Day Diet! And as the name suggests the diet plan should not be followed for any longer than that.

This weight loss plan works because calorie intake is lowered but the diet meal plan still gives some nutritional balance. One of the things that makes this plan popular and relatively easy to follow, is that ‘normal’ foods such as ice cream and hot dogs are incorporated and there is some variety.

DAY ONE

BREAKFAST LUNCH DINNER
Black Coffee or tea
With low fat sweetener     

½grapefruit
1 slice of toast with 1tbsp peanut butter

½ a cup of tuna
1 slice of toast
Black coffee/tea/water*
3 oz any lean meat
1 cup of green beans
1 cup of carrots
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
1 medium apple
Black coffee/tea/water*

DAY TWO

BREAKFAST LUNCH DINNER
Black coffee/tea/water*
1 egg(served any style)
1 slice of toast
1 banana
1 cup of tuna or cottage cheese
5 plain crackers
Black coffee/tea/water*
2 hotdogs
½ cup of carrots
1 cup of broccoli or cabbage
1 banana
½ cup of vanilla ice cream

DAY THREE

BREAKFAST LUNCH DINNER
Black coffee/tea/water*
5 plain crackers 1 oz of cheddar cheese
1 apple
1 hard boiled egg
1 slice of toast
black coffee/tea/water*
1 cup of tuna
1 cup of carrots
1 cup of cauliflower
1 cup of melon
½ cup of vanilla ice cream
black coffee/tea/water*

*Low calorie sweetener should always be used instead of sugar

CONDIMENTS ALLOWED

Lemon juice
salt and pepper
mustard
cooking oil spray

VARIATIONS

If you really don’t like any of the foods included you can make some changes;

Orange instead of grapefruit
Tuna instead of cottage cheese or vice versa
Frozen yoghurt instead of ice cream
Cauliflower instead of broccoli and vice versa
Green beans instead of broccoli or cauliflower
Beetroot instead of carrots
Toast instead of 5 plain crackers

Follow the plan for 3 days with strictly no cheating and you should get the immediate results you want. When you see the differences to the new slimmer you, you should feel encouraged to continue with a healthy lifestyle!

I have purchased mattessons pork sausage which is a hot dog but the packet has a one large complete sausage not 2 but to eat of theses would be too much I think! Also 1 maybe too much for the diet should I only eat half? Your help on this will be great thanx

    You can drink as many fluids throughout the day as you like, however we recommended staying away from fizzy drinks and not any more tea or coffee than specified.

    The best fluids to drink would be water, still flavoured water or dilutee.

    As the diet does not specifiy if it’s low fat or diet peanut butter, cottage cheese or wholemeal bread, I would imagine you can choose any you like. However you would see greater results if you opted for a low fat cottage cheese and peanut butter aswell as a wholemeal loaf of bread rather and a white loaf.

    I don’t see a problem for you to substitute the hot dogs for Richmond sausages. However, the sausages do have a higher calorie content then the hot dogs.

    As the diet is based on lowering your calorie content, this may affect your weight loss results.

    I would also imagine that sugar-free gum is fine to chew during the diet.

    However this diet does recommend you refrain from all foods and drinks that are not listed and avoid substituting anything if you can.

    My pattner did this diet last week and lost 8lbs!!! He even substituted a couple of foods as advised and ate too much meat for dinner on the first day by accident as he measured it wrong!! I wouldnt bother weighing urself until the 4th day as he lost the majoroty of weight overnight on the 3rd night. Im srating today will let u kno how i get on! Although missed out grapefruot this morning as iv been unwell. Do u think i should have one with dinner instead? Xx

    tried this diet several times before and found it good for a quick weight loss and also to give an idea of portions for fututre weight loss. portion size has become a big problem lately. day 2 was always particularly difficult and i was actually hungry. just a note, if you go to the official BHF webswsite, they do not advocate this diet.

    Diet DID NOT WORK for me .
    Found diet easy to follow and great portions ..was not hungry . As I usually eat less than this anyway as Im a very little n often type of stomach.
    I included 4 hours of workout dvd exercise during as well as normal daily activities and as have 2 children on school holidays u can imagine im quite active. Drank only water . I cannot understand y i am not loosing weight with this diet or any .
    If anyone can help me …would appreciate it , thank you .

    I am going to start this diet wednesday so the 4th day will be saturday the day i go out ,
    Is it ok to replace the tea/coffee with water as i cant drink it without milk . And what do u do the other 4 days ?
    Will be substituting the peanut butter .Maybe a couple of others but strictly on the substitution recomendations list . Will not cheat .
    But following it to the letter otherwise.
    As its recommended to do this for 3 days only and then a week in between? x

    I have done this diet many times as you do loose weight on the fourth day.Although you are starving it’s only recomended for 3 days just because your not consuming alot of food.I did it for a month and lost 15 lbs.Does vary with some people Just stick to the 3 day plan and wash your food down with water if you dont like it.You have to have alot of willpower and want to loose weight
