Good diet 'can help reduce physical effects of stress'While people often increase their consumption of fruit and vegetables in a bid to lose weight, eating healthily also offers a number of other benefits.

This is according to Ann Finnemore, a hypnotherapist and stress manager, who noted that many people who are stressed will turn to processed foods, particularly sugary items.

Yet, this can have an adverse affect, leaving people even more stressed, she explained, while healthy eating habits help the body to cope with stress.

"When in a state of high anxiety or panic, a move to a healthier diet is best, as it will help provide the nutrients required by the body and will help make the person more resilient to the physical effects of their stress," she said.

Ms Finnemore's comments follow a recent study from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, which showed that regular exercise could help people who are suffering from depression and anxiety problems.
